Hispanic Outlook on Education ranked Lone Star College as the fifth largest four-year higher education institution in the nation for the number of Hispanic students enrolled in 2019. The magazine also noted that LSC was sixth in the nation for total associate degrees granted to Hispanic students in 2020.

Hispanic Outlook on Education, a monthly publication that provides education news while maintaining a unique Hispanic perspective, publishes this ranking list each year.
The publication noted that LSC welcomed nearly 40,000 Hispanic students in 2019, representing 39% percent of the total LSC student population. The rankings were determined by the national Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, a method of surveys conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics which recently granted LSC 4-year college status. Data for 2019-2020 was the latest available.
LSC was also recognized by Hispanic Outlook on Education for being third in the nation in awarding Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies, and Humanities degrees to Hispanics. More than 2,400 degrees were conferred, representing 41% of the total number of those degrees LSC awarded in spring 2020.
“We know the pandemic year has been marked by unprecedented challenges, particularly for minority students,” said Head. “I am proud of the work done by our faculty and staff who continue to make our students feel welcome.”
In addition to being recognized as a leader in Hispanic education by Hispanic Outlook, LSC is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education, a recognition that is given to nonprofit institutes with a full-time undergraduate student enrollment that is at least 25 percent Hispanic.
