1. What did you study at LSC-University Park??
I graduated with an Associate of Arts, Liberal Arts from LSC-University Park. I transferred to University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business.
2. What does earning a degree mean to you?
From my childhood, my parents instilled in me the value of education and how it can be a transformative force in one’s life. To me, earning a degree is more than just pursuing education and getting a comfortable job as a product. It is a journey of personal, professional and social development, a means by which one could live a meaningful life with knowledge.
3. What are some of the biggest advantages of attending a community college?
The biggest advantages of attending a community college for me were:
a) Flexibility - As a student who prefers less commute and flexibility with my schedule, community college is the best choice because you get to be close to home while at the same time working out your other priorities as a student.
b) Affordable - This is a major one, with the rise of student debt and the long- and short-term problems associated with it, I feel like attending a community college is the best possible decision and investment that your future self will thank you for.
c) Resources - I believe one of the most resourceful institutions in our community is the community college. As a student, you are well-taken care of.
4. What campus resources have helped you the most??
The Writing Lab from the SLRC helped me the most. Ms. Fink was my go-to tutor. She really helped me with my writing, provided feedback and helped me get familiar with the standard conventions of the MLA and APA.
5. Why is it important to get involved with student activities?
It is important to be proactive and get involved because the more you get involved, the more rewarding it is for you. You get to meet and learn from student peers, leaders and faculty members, showcase your talents, give back to the college and grow at the same time.
6. Where is your favorite place to study on campus?
My favorite place to study on campus was the SLRC. I loved going to the SLRC and get my homework and assignments done because the environment is so calm and encouraging.
7. What are your goals for after graduation?
I’ve transferred to the University of Houston, so I’ll be pursuing my undergraduate degree in business. From there, let’s see where life takes me!
8. What is your advice for incoming students at LSC-University Park?
Incoming students of LSC-University Park, congratulations! Trust me, no matter your background, LSC-University Park is the right place for you for all the right reasons. Make the most of it, get to know all the resources, chart out your goals and work toward them. Connect with student leaders, your peers and communicate with your professors. Get involved on campus and be a part of something larger than yourself. The more work you put in, the more amazing college experience you will have!
