Lone Star College announced Melissa Gonzalez, Ph.D., has been selected as the new president of LSC-Kingwood following a nationwide search. Gonzalez will become LSC-Kingwood’s sixth president effective June 1.
“I am very excited to have Dr. Gonzalez join Lone Star College,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “Her administrative skills, teaching experience and passion will make her a tremendous asset to both students and employees.”
“I am honored and humbled to be asked to serve as the next president of Lone Star College-Kingwood,” said Gonzalez. “I thank Chancellor Head and all the members of the Lone Star College System Board of Trustees for the trust they have given me to serve as their next president.”
Gonzalez currently serves as president, Houston Community College Southeast since 2017 and also served as vice chancellor/chief of staff. Previous to that, Gonzalez worked at LSC in a variety of positions including vice chancellor, Workforce and Economic Development; interim vice president, LSC-Greenspoint Center and LSC-Victory Center; and was special assistant to the president and Academic and Workforce dean at LSC-North Harris.
Gonzalez holds a Ph.D. in International Business/Management, and MBA and B.B.A from the University of Texas-Pan American. She was a tenured faculty member at the University of Houston-Clear Lake where she was an associate professor of International Business Management and assistant chair for the Management Program. She also taught as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Houston-Downtown, lecturer in the School of Business at the University of Texas-Pan American and adjunct instructor at South Texas College.
“This tremendous opportunity will allow me to pursue my passion for serving students, empowering faculty and staff, and connecting with our community,” said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez resides in the greater Lake Houston area and is familiar with the issues and challenges LSC-Kingwood faced during and following Hurricane Harvey.
