Learn about tingling sensations, heart-warming volunteering, streaming options in programming and researching at Lone Star College-CyFair’s April weekly WebEx workshops.
These free Learning, Inspiration, Friendship and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) programs are available Wednesdays through virtual presentations and are accessible for one week.
- April 7: ASMR
Heard of ASMR but not sure what it’s about? Join Librarian Regina Vitolo for a primer on this tingle-inducing phenomenon and learn about the science behind Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR). Headphones are strongly recommended for viewing this presentation!
- April 14: Fostering Our Love of Dogs
Tracy Williams, Teen Librarian, and Angie Pierce of Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue discuss canine rescue and fostering - from how a dog rescue organization works to how to volunteer and foster!
- April 21: Streaming Options
Ever been stuck flipping through your streaming apps with a thousand options, but nothing to watch? That’s what local film critic James Clay calls the paralysis of choice, where streaming options are far too great and it’s nearly impossible to make up your mind. Come on a tour of how to streamline (no pun intended) your content choices on a daily basis. From Netflix, to Hulu, to HBOMax and even niche programming like Criterion Channel, or Shudder - each app has something for every media lover from the casual viewer, to the film buff. Have no fear, you’ll be enjoying premium content in no time.
- April 28: Researching Stocks in the Era of Meme Stocks
Rachel Evans, Reference Librarian, will provide an overview of how to use research tools such as Morningstar and Value Line that are available for free through Harris County Public Libraries to research different stocks to make informed investing decisions. Learn how to get started doing your own due diligence and how to go beyond social media to pick stocks.
