Lee Ann Nutt, Ed.D., Lone Star College-Tomball president and Jackie Thomas, Ph.D., LSC-Tomball chief strategist were recognized by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for their outstanding support of student success.
“The work that Dr. Nutt and Dr. Thomas do for their students makes such an impact, not only for Phi Theta Kappa students, but everyone involved with LSC-Tomball,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “I congratulate the both of them for this outstanding recognition.”
Nutt was selected for Phi Theta Kappa’s Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, their most prestigious award for community college presidents. Thomas was recognized as a 2021 Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished College Administrator.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) is an international honor society of students attending open-access institutions and seeking associate degrees, bachelor's degrees or other college credentials. PTK students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, receive tutoring and mentoring opportunities, become part of a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to bettering themselves and their communities and will have PTK noted on their academic transcripts.
In a letter recognizing Nutt, Lynn Tincher-Ladner, Ph.D., Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society president and CEO said “this year you worked to mentor and develop student leaders in completely unfamiliar circumstances. Racial and political unrest and a global pandemic made 2020 the most challenging year in recent history—one that you have worked exceptionally hard to overcome.”
In recognizing Thomas, Tincher-Ladner said “your PTK students are so grateful and it’s not just them. Your nomination provided examples of how you support success for all students—even amid a global pandemic.”
Nutt and Thomas will be honored April 9 at the PTK Catalyst 2021 Live, a virtual convention featuring speakers, educational forums and Hallmark Awards.
