Lone Star College-CyFair recently recognized Oscar Dominguez Guerrero and Chelsea Hailey as this year’s Staff Excellence Award winners for giving their all to serve students and the campus community each and every day.
Guerrero has been an LSC-CyFair Maintenance Technician in the Facilities Department since June 2012. He said being part of the college system for nearly a decade is a privilege that has touched his life personally and professionally.
“Twenty years ago, I came to this country as an immigrant, without speaking the language, but with a desire to succeed,” said the former construction laborer. “My dream - to work with a corporation, with benefits, with opportunities – has become a reality. I do not take any day for granted. Every day I gain knowledge and experience, and this is the reason why I work with honor and pride.”
Hailey, who was a stay-at-home mom, joined LSC-CyFair in August 2019 as the part-time Recreational Sports Coordinator in the Student Life Department, another job she describes as never boring.
Even during this pandemic, the department hosts virtual events for students and stays connected via social media to help offer some relief from the stress of day-to-day classes.
“With a goal to broaden students’ horizons to other cultures, we provide a vast array of recreational activities and programs that reaches each student no matter their background, ethnicity, gender or age,” she said. “To be successful in our department, it takes heart and true passion - you have to be willing to give your all whether 1 student shows up to events or 1,000.”
Both of these employees will receive further recognition in a system awards event in February.
