10 Habits for Successful Online Learning

Whether you’re just starting college or returning, these 10 Habits for Successful Online Learning will help you make the most out of your time at LSC-University Park. Adopting these habits into your daily routine will not only lead you to success in the classroom, they can also be beneficial to your professional and social life!

1. Stay Connected
You are not alone. Take advantage of social media and create your own community groups to interact with your classmates and professors to stay informed and connected. Follow LSC-University Park on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

2. Be Self-Disciplined
Be your own boss. Set realistic timeframes for each assignment. Utilize organizational apps and new technology to stay on track.

3. Find Your Space
A quiet and comfortable study environment is critical to your online learning success. Make sure your study space is well lit and free of distractions like television and music.

4. Make a Schedule
Prioritize your work. Start with those subjects that require the most of your time and attention. Include incentives in your planning to reward yourself when you complete specific tasks.

5. Manage Your Time
Be realistic about how long it might take to complete an assignment. Remember, some assignments may require more preparation, as well at time to complete. Account for this when planning your day.

6. Be Pro-Active
As an online student, you must be vigilant and actively seek out answers to your questions. Utilize resources like virtual office hours with your professor and online tutoring services. Visit LoneStar.edu/SLRC to learn more about online tutoring services.

7. Avoid Multitasking
Research has shown that multitasking reduces the brain's ability to store new information. Avoid doing more than one thing at time so you can retain what you've learned.

8. Take Frequent Breaks
Keep a healthy mind and body. Staying healthy, both mentally and physically, is key to managing stress and having a successful semester.

9. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
Take advantage of support services. Reach out to your advisors, professors, peers, deans and other support staff. Even though we are not all on campus, we are available to support you! For support service assistance, email UP-SuccessConections@LoneStar.edu

10. Commit to Complete
This is a difficult transition for everyone. Commit to your education and reflect on everything you have already accomplished this semester. Completion is still in reach!
