Commitment to education puts student back on the path to success through LSC-North Harris

As a student growing up, Rishabh Chaudhary always made his way through school with ease, which made his detour through Lone Star College-North Harris an eye-opening experience for the new Purdue Boilermaker.

Now, with the help of LSC-North Harris’ transfer courses, Chaudhary is pursuing a combined Mathematics and Computer Science major.

He always saw his academic future as one that would follow the traditional path of moving on from high school to a university, and then a college diploma four years later. His transition from high school to the University of British Columbia quickly left his goal of achieving a degree on life-support with a 2.1 GPA.

“After a personal epiphany, I accepted the fact that I was not quite ready for the structured college system,” Chaudhary said. “At age 19, I made the decision to defer my university studies to start Taski, a technology start-up. Ultimately, I grew a company that now spans Canada partnering with clients such as Marriott, Four Seasons, and Westin.”

For Chaudhary, he knew where he wanted to go, but needed help getting back on track. Three years removed from his time in college, Chaudhary, who attended high school in Calgary, Canada, decided to complete his undergraduate studies, but as a transfer and international student, his applications were denied as a result of his previous academic struggles.

With his parents now living in Houston, Chaudhary turned to the programs offered through LSC-North Harris to guide his academic journey back to a four-year university.

“Lone Star College-North Harris provided the bridge that I needed to achieve success,” Chaudhary said. “My professors provided support in the classroom, through office hours, and on a personal basis through discussions.”

To once again be competitive in the eyes of the schools Chaudhary wanted to attend, he would have to be approved for credit overload and begin taking courses during the summer 2019 semester and complete 66 credit hours by February.

Chaudhary refocused his attention to school and did not fail to reach his goals. After three semesters, he was among the most competitive applicants academically.

“During my time at Lone Star College, I managed to complete 60 credits in three semesters with a 4.0. GPA,” Chaudhary said. “This allowed me to increase my cumulative GPA to prove to schools that I am capable of succeeding at their institutions.”

After his hard work and dedication, Chaudhary received admission to top universities, including Northwestern, Indiana, Ohio State, and his top choice, Purdue.

All of Chaudhary’s credits from LSC-North Harris were accepted, allowing him to focus on upper-level courses for his major.

LSC-North Harris continues to help every student who enrolls achieve their academic success, whether that student is seeking university transfer or working towards an associate degree.
