Lone Star College recognized as a top school for Hispanics

Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine recognized Lone Star College for having the largest number of undergraduate Hispanic students enrolled at a two-year college in the nation and second in the nation for the number of Associate of Art degrees awarded to Hispanic students in 2018.

“Lone Star College is focused on helping all students be successful,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “We are grateful for this recognition and remain committed to providing our students the resources necessary to improve their lives.”

Hispanic Outlook on Education noted LSC welcomed nearly 28,000 Hispanic students in 2018, representing 38% of the total LSC student population. It also reported LSC conferred 2,654 A.A. degrees to Hispanic students which represented 35% of all LSC students.

The rankings were determined by the national Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, a method of surveys conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics. Data for 2018 were the latest available.

Hispanic Outlook, a monthly publication that provides education news while maintaining a unique Hispanic perspective publishes these rankings each year.

In addition to being recognized as a leader in Hispanic education by Hispanic Outlook, LSC is designated as an Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education, a recognition that is given to nonprofit institutes with a full-time undergraduate student enrollment that is at least 25% Hispanic.
