Lone Star College-Tomball Health Science Building opens doors for TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries

TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries has partnered with Lone Star College-Tomball for the use of the LSC-Tomball Health Science Building to provide much needed care in a safe environment for a certain population of clients.

The LSC-Tomball Health Science Building, located in close proximity to TOMAGWA, will serve as an alternate location to limit exposure to COVID-19 for TOMAGWA patients. TOMAGWA is a health care clinic serving uninsured individuals in the Tomball, Waller and Magnolia area.

“Lone Star College has built strong partnerships with local organizations to promote both student and community success,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “We are honored to be in the position to assist this very important community resource.”

The LSC-Tomball Health Science Building, which has been closed since spring break due to the coronavirus, will be made available to TOMAGWA health officials to examine patients who need to be seen in person, such as those with diabetes and impaired lung function. These patients cannot be adequately treated via Telehealth, the delivery of health care managed remotely by means of telecommunications technology, which TOMAGWA is utilizing for many of their patients

“TOMAGWA will staff two health care professionals beginning Wednesday, April 8,” said Lee Ann Nutt, Ed.D., LSC-Tomball president. “Through the month of April, they will examine up to four patients, one at a time, each day with each patient receiving a level 2 mask before entering the building. Cleaning of the room in which care is provided will occur between patient visits. The caregivers will be in full personal protective equipment.”

The LSC-Tomball Health Science Building will be sanitized before opening again for students and employees on May 4.

“TOMAGWA is grateful to LCS-Tomball for aiding in the fight against COVID-19 by keeping chronically ill residents healthy through maintaining access to medical examinations,” said Timika Simmons, TOMAGWA CEO. “Many LSC-Tomball health science students have trained at TOMAGWA clinics with several becoming long-time staff members and volunteers. It’s a beautiful thing to have the college and students open their home to the families of our community who are most in need, families we’ve jointly cared for over the years.”

TOMAGWA is a safety-net clinic that provides comprehensive healthcare services regardless of race, creed, ethnicity, religious affiliation or the ability to pay. Visit TOMAGWA.org to learn more.
