What: The Family Summit at Lone Star College-Tomball is a free event that invites all the members of families who want to learn how to prepare, fund, and navigate the going-to-college process. Participants will be able to attend interactive workshops that discuss how students and their families can prepare for the next steps in their educational journey.
This year’s summit will focus on enrolling and being a college student. The theme is "Your Future in Focus" and the goal is to ensure students are getting the basic and essential information they need to attend college for the first time. The three main topics the workshops will focus on are: Preparing for College, Paying for College, and Navigating College. This includes the financial avenues available to help pay for a college education, such as scholarships, grants, and loans. In addition, participants will learn some of the skills and habits needed to be successful in college and current high school students will learn how to prepare for college while still in high school.
A Resource Fair held concurrent with the workshops will consist of various LSC-Tomball departments and organizations presenting information on admissions and enrollment, academics and clubs and activities for students. Participants will also be able to enjoy a new Virtual Reality (VR) experience and take a “virtual” tour of Texas universities and colleges.
This is the second Family Summit to be hosted by the Center for Leadership, Academic and Student Success (CLASS) at LSC-Tomball. Attending college is a family decision and that is why all the members of the family are encouraged to attend. Parents specifically will learn how to support their students, especially if they are the first in their family to attend college, while they transition into LSC-Tomball.
The educational workshops will be presented in both English and Spanish.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided free to all participants.
