From hands-on activities and games to drone exploration, children ages 3-12 can enjoy a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) topics with future teachers at Lone Star College-CyFair.
Held in partnership with the Harris County Public Library’s LSC-CyFair Children’s Library, LSC-CyFair’s pre-service teachers incorporate STEM concepts into three events this December.
The STEMtastic Literacy program features a variety of literacy activities appropriate for ages 3-6. Limited to 30 children, this session will be held from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 in the children’s library.
The STEMtastic Stations program offers two engaging learning sessions for ages 5-12. This year, the students will learn about force and optics. Participants leave with a take-home experiment and parents will gain some resources they can use with their children to learn more about the morning’s highlighted STEM topics. The 10 a.m. – 10:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. sessions, will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 in the Conference Center. Each session is limited to 35 participants.
The STEMtastic Power Hour program is designed for young scientists ages 9-12 interested in learning the basics behind how drones work. Participants will use measurement and basic coding to program a drone to fly through a mini-obstacle course. This 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. session, will also be held Saturday, Dec. 7 in the Conference Center and is limited to 25 attendees.
Parents must accompany children at all of the STEMtastic sessions. All participants are asked to arrive an hour in advance to receive a session ticket in the children’s library.
