It’s time for children ages 3 to 10 to have fun with math at this semester’s carnival-themed Math Games Day held Nov. 9 at Lone Star College-CyFair.
Bring the family and friends for this come-and-go “carnival of fractions, geometry, measurement, and all things numerical” with future elementary or middle school teachers.
“Each semester, students in our Mathematics for Teachers classes put on a festival of math games they have designed for children to experience how much fun learning mathematics can be,” said LSC-CyFair Math Professor Dr. John Burghduff. “This event gives our students a chance to try out ideas they are learning in class with community children while earning Service Learning Credit.”
Topics of the games include basic operations on numbers, set theory, mappings, two- and three-dimensional geometry and probability.
“The games are fun, affirming, age appropriate and correlated to the curriculum taught in public schools,” said Burghduff. “We guarantee your children will have a great time as we help reinforce their knowledge of mathematics and build their confidence.”
Math Games Day activities will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Conference Center at 9191 Barker Cypress.
Parents/adults must be with their children at all times, but no registration is required for this come-and-go event. Exit prizes will be given to all participants.
