LSC-North Harris celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

The Lone Star College-North Harris Latin American Student Organization (LASO), Center for Civic Engagement, Student Life and others are showcasing Latino literature and culture during Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 – Oct. 15.

According to 2019 fall enrollment numbers, more than 53 percent of Lone Star College-North Harris students are Hispanic. Celebrating these students’ heritage and culture provides opportunities for connection with other students and vice-versa.

Hispanic Heritage Month activities include a variety of options at both the Lone Star College-North Harris main campus at 2700 W. W. Thorne Dr., and the new Lone Star College-East Aldine Center at 2430 Aldine Mail Route Rd.

The calendar of events for Hispanic Heritage Month follows.

Tuesday, Sept. 17

  • Latino Literature Display – LSC-North Harris, Library, Second Floor, All month long
  • Elotes and Aquas Frescas – LSC-North Harris, Winship Building, across from the MAC Lab, 5:15 – 7:15 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 19

  • Hispanic Heritage month Kick-Off: “First Gen College Student’s Road to the Doctorate”
    Keynote by Dr. Luis Lucio – LSC-North Harris, Academic Building, Room 126, Noon – 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 24

  • Hispanic Women in Politics hosted by Sociology Club – LSC-North Harris, Academic Building, Room 126, 2:30 – 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 25

  • Mi Familia Vota (voter registration) – LSC-North Harris, Courtyard, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 26

  • Mi Familia Vota (voter registration) – LSC-North Harris, Courtyard, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Movies with LASO: “Latino Americans: 500 Years of History” – LSC-North Harris, Academic Building, Room 126, 2 – 3 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 3
