It’s time to enjoy an evening of performance poetry as slammers express, speak and declare in Lone Star College-CyFair’s annual Poetry Slam set April 11.
“Be prepared for a rowdy atmosphere where performers can rise up and speak their mind as we celebrate the freedom of expression on one stage, with many voices, where artistic verbal creations compete for prizes,” said Carolina Ruiz, professor of English.
Held in celebration of National Poetry Month, this event features emcee Stevens Orozco, DJ Goldielocks and a special performance by The Red Poets Society from Cy-Lakes High School.
Community and college slam poets compete and entertain audiences with poems in styles that typically range from vibrant, hip-hop style to serene rhythm and rhyme.
This event, intended for mature audiences as some poems may contain adult material, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11 in the Main Stage Theatre at 9191 Barker Cypress.
