Lone Star College-University Park has been recognized by the Klein Independent School District (Klein ISD) for Exemplifying the Profile of a Leader by being a Promise2Purpose Investor. The certificate of recognition was presented by the Klein ISD Board of Trustees Monday, Feb. 11 and recognizes LSC-University Park’s success in innovative academic programming, community service campaigns benefiting Klein ISD families, and the subsequent impact on Klein ISD students’ graduation and career outlook.
“LSC-University Park never fails to support the students and families of Klein ISD,” said Beth Gilleland, executive director of college and career pathways for Klein ISD, during the presentation. “On any given day LSC-University Park staff can be found providing college instruction to over 2,000 students, providing scholarships to multiple graduating seniors each year, and spreading college and financial awareness to families. LSC-University Park always has innovative ways to engage with students.”
The certificate of recognition was presented to Dr. Shah Ardalan, LSC-University Park president, and his leadership team.
“We are grateful to be recognized by such an important partner and friend to the LSC-University Park community,” said Ardalan. “Thousands of Klein ISD students have enrolled in our programs during their high school careers and after graduating. We look forward to continuing our partnership to bring the best in educational programming to this community and positively impacting the socioeconomics of our area. Offering high-quality education at an affordable cost is the core mission of our college.”
LSC-University Park’s programs encourage student success in Klein ISD schools. Programs aim to provide education and career building opportunities and include Dual Credit, Summer Bridge Program participation and Faces of Harris County. The college has also initiated various school supply and clothing donations for students in the Klein ISD area.
Klein ISD 11th and 12th-grade students enroll in fall and spring dual credit courses each year at LSC-University Park. Students who complete the semester will receive a high school completion grade and college credit that can be transferred across the LSC system and to other colleges across the country. Multiple students graduate with an associate degree as well as a high school diploma. LSC-University Park and Klein ISD will host a Dual Credit Summer 2019 Registration event in March for students and parents who are interested in receiving more information about the program.
During the summer, Klein Forest High School brings over 300 students to LSC-University Park as part of their Summer Bridge Program. Students are exposed to real-world jobs as well as a college readiness experience by visiting different departments and offices on campus.
