HOUSTON (October 2, 2018) – Fifteen Lone Star College-North Harris Honors College students gained invaluable lifetime experience when they traveled to China this summer.
This was thanks to The Lone Star College Partnership for the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) and the generous support of U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
“CUSEF offers our high-achieving students an opportunity to experience another culture in an academically meaningful way,” said Maria Donaire-Cirsovius, LSC-North Harris Honors College Director. “We are always grateful that Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee provides this opportunity for our students to be more aware American and global citizens.”
The 2018 delegation visited China from Aug. 5-16 and traveled to Beijing, Hangzhou Wanxiang Polytechnic University, and Shanghai to learn about China’s culture, economics, and educational opportunities. They toured some of the nation’s most famous historical sites, including the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City.
"Traveling to China with the CUSEF Program was a tremendous cultural experience!” said program alumna Ciara Williams. “I really enjoyed meeting and interacting with the students of the Polytechnic College."
Founded in Hong Kong in 2008 and privately funded, CUSEF is an independent, non-profit and non-governmental foundation committed to the belief that a positive and peaceful relationship between the strongest developed nation and the most populous, fast-developing nation is essential for global wellbeing.
To be selected for the program, LSC-North Harris students must reside in Texas’ 18th Congressional District and be outstanding students and leaders in the Honors College.
