This year, Lone Star College-CyFair students received a financial helping hand to pursue their dreams here and abroad thanks to the Didwell-Liebling Opportunity Scholarships.
Marian Liebling and her husband Scott awarded scholarships to Alan Enriquez, Abigail Cancinos, Libby Martinez, Tran Nguyen, David Esparaza, Karina Rodriguez, Leslie Cortez, Daniela Morales and Aimee Raven Campos.
"It has been a joy for Scott and I to award these scholarships to so many hardworking and talented students,” Marian said. “We always feel our community’s future is in good hands after meeting with our scholarship students.”
Originally earmarked for students in Government, Political Science and History, the Lieblings established these scholarships in 2012 in honor of their parents and family after hearing first hand stories of students’ financial needs.
They have since established two memorial scholarships in honor of friends Patrick Morris, a mentor and generous donor, and Dr. Jim Brown, a former LSC-CyFair professor.
This year, they added scholarships designated for those interested in studying abroad. These were awarded to Emily Hull and Misael Hernandez, to go to Greece and Andrea Russ, to go to Italy.
“The world is a great classroom of knowledge,” said Marian. “Scott and I were excited to expand our scholarships to include this area of student studies.”
LSC-CyFair offers many scholarship opportunities with varying requirements and award amounts thanks to the generosity of community partners as well as from area individuals, such as the Lieblings. The scholarship application deadline for the 2019 spring semester is Oct. 1.
