HOUSTON – LSC-University Park faculty and staff were invited to accompany their children to Bring Your Child to Work Day for a day filled with fun and developmental activities throughout different areas of the college!
The event’s theme, “Rock On,” included programming shaped around STEM education, the arts and career exploration. Approximately 40 children ages 5 to 13 began their day by receiving a LSC-University Park backpack, a Future Lion t-shirt and their Little Lion ID.
The children spent time in a variety of different activity stations including: programming Spero Robots from the LSC-University Park Innovation Room; building models with 3D pens; studying geography with a hands-on sandbox exhibit combined with 3D visualization; painting traveling rocks that will be planted anywhere to spread kindness with the painted message; educational films in a Pop-Up Dome; and creating lava lamps in the Center for Science & Innovation (CSI) science labs.
The highlight of the day was when the children visited the Innovation Room to explore its advanced technology devices and software.
“My favorite part was when I tried on the virtual reality googles!” said 7-year-old Addy Brownlee, daughter of Graphic Designer, Tyrone Brownlee, after visiting the Innovation Room.
The children also had the opportunity to job shadow their parents and learn about how they make a difference in the LSC-University Park community.
Student Assistant, Jessica Byrne, shared that the event is a great opportunity for children to visit LSC-University Park, “it is important they get a glimpse of academics and normalize it at a young age."
Children and parents went home with a memorable photo and various arts and crafts. This event was made possible thanks to the help of various departments in the college. A very special thanks to all of the volunteers!
