Four faculty members at Lone Star College-North Harris have been selected to serve on FOS Advisory Committees by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board over the course of the last year. Based on the current committee memberships, the Lone Star College System has seven representatives in total, with four of those residing at LSC-North Harris.
Faculty invited to serve on FOS Advisory Committees are:
Ibrahim Abou-Saad - Finance
Alana Aleman - Political Science
Kimberlee Ball - History
Kiwana Francis - Business & Management
The FOS Advisory Committees are made up of 24 faculty members from institutions across the state, half from universities offering a baccalaureate degree program in the FOS subject area and half from community and technical colleges offering courses that lead to an undergraduate degree in the subject area. Faculty must be nominated for a FOS Advisory Committee position and then selected to serve by the Coordinating Board. Selection is based on their content knowledge, experience developing and assessing course-level learning outcomes, possession of a working knowledge of criteria for program approval and accreditation (if applicable), and a willingness to share the work of the FOS Advisory Committee with campus colleagues to solicit feedback.
Each FOS Advisory Committee is charged with identifying the block of courses which students may transfer to a general academic teaching institution and must be substituted for that institution's lower-division requirements for the degree program into which the student transfers. Faculty representation on these FOS Advisory Committees is very selective, yet vital to the success of transfer students.
