TOMBALL, TX – LSC-Tomball Women’s Basketball team has accomplished something it has never done before: won its first championship.
“It’s a great feeling,” said LSC-Tomball Women’s Basketball Head Coach Christopher DeJesus.
The Houston Club Sports Conference awarded the championship trophy to LSC-Tomball after a hard fought battle against Houston Community College. Although this is LSC-Tomball’s first championship in the 10-member conference, DeJesus stressed, “We’re not done.”
DeJesus went on to predict that LSC-Tomball, a team that went 8-1 during the regular season and has eight players returning in the fall, is the team to beat next year.
Naye Rogers, LSC-Tomball Women’s Basketball captain, agreed with DeJesus’ sentiments, declaring, “I think we can repeat as champions.”
Rogers went on to note that she does not think the team could have brought the championship home without the guidance, leadership, and positive encouragement from DeJesus.
“We have a really good group of girls and this year was a really good experience, but we couldn’t have done it without Coach Chris,” Rogers stressed, before adding, “I’m looking forward to building upon what we’ve done and having another successful season.”
Christelyn Palmer, also captain for LSC-Tomball Women’s Basketball team, said she views this year’s season as a success because players went from just being teammates to sisters.
“We came together as a team and became something more,” Palmer said. “We became sisters.”
DeJesus added that he believes LSC-Tomball Women’s Basketball is moving in the right direction and has grown leaps and bounds from years past.
“I’ve been here for over 10 years, starting with a team of only five girls going 0-8,” DeJesus recalled. “To be where we are right now, I’m excited about the future and what we will accomplish next as a team.”
