Lone Star College celebrates student success at commencement ceremonies

Lone Star College awarded 7,963 associate degrees and certificates to eligible students who took part in commencement ceremonies earlier this month.

“Graduation ceremonies are very special as we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our students and faculty,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “Their achievements will be something they remember for the rest of their lives.”

The ceremonies for six Lone Star Colleges took place May 10 – 12.

Lone Star College ranks third nationally in conferring Associate Degrees among all community colleges, according to data from the National Center for Educational Statistics. The ranking is from the 2015-16 academic year, the latest complete data available. There are approximately 1,100 community colleges nationwide.

In addition, the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine recently named LSC a Top 25 College for Hispanics. LSC was ranked first in the nation for the number of Hispanic students enrolled and second for the number of associate degrees awarded. In all, Hispanics represented 38 percent of Lone Star College students who earned a degree or certification at this year’s ceremonies.

LSC Board of Trustee members Ken E. Lloyd, Art Murillo, Myriam Saldívar, Dr. Alton Smith, Dr. Kyle Scott, Dr. Ronald Trowbridge and David Vogt also participated in various roles at this year’s ceremonies.
