TOMBALL, TX – The LSC-Tomball Fine & Performing Arts department will host its fourth annual Year-End Musical Showcase at 7 pm, Tuesday, May 1, at the Performing Arts Center.
“The 2018 Year-End Music Showcase is always a celebratory event as we recognize students who are going to the next level – graduating, transferring, and going into a four-year music program,” said Dr. Lisa Morales, LSC-Tomball Fine Arts chair and music program director. “During the spring, students who wish to pursue music as a profession go through a series of auditions and we can’t help but hoot and holla a bit over their hard earned successes.”
Morales went on to note that this year’s concert will feature a component that reflects the Texas Humanities grant that her department recently received to explore musical theater and the impact of comic opera composer Giachino Rossini (1792-1868).
“Audiences will hear repertoire from many different eras of music history, including 20th century opera and 21st century musical theater,” Morales said. “It will be fun. Both the jazz band, directed by Jaymee Lamprecht, and the Chamber Orchestra, directed by Dr. Jackson Guillen, will be joining us.”
The Chamber Orchestra, according to Morales, is a relatively new group in which she says she is fortunate to have in the year-end showcase.
“The Fine Arts are such collaborative fields, so each concert we do requires immense teamwork – directors, students, and Performing Arts Center staff. It’s so rewarding to convene the village to really express through music or drama or technical elements the emotion and meaning of a piece. It is a wonderful learning experience for all of us.”
Although the program director is excited about the Year-End Showcase, she went on to provide a sneak-peak of the Fine & Performing Arts Summer Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, slated for July 12 - 15.
“Drowsy Chaperone is a delightful romp through the early 20th century in the form of a musical within a musical,” Morales revealed, before adding, “Audiences can expect slapstick comedy, fun theatrical effects, and a very entertaining evening.”
Auditions, Morales said, will be held at 5:30 pm – 8 pm, May 3 and 9 am – noon, May 5, in the Performing Arts Center. Auditions are open to the community.
