TOMBALL, Texas – According to the American Heart Association (AHA), approximately 70 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in a private or residential setting, with only about 46 percent receiving the immediate help needed before professional help arrives. But thanks to an upcoming CPR training at LSC-Tomball, thousands of northwest Houstonians will have the opportunity to learn the CPR skills they need to become more prepared to save a life.
The training will be held from 11 am – 4:30 pm, April 24, at LSC-Tomball Beckendorf Conference Center. Those interested in participating in this free event are asked to register.
The Tomball Regional Health Foundation supplied the AHA with the funds to help train 3,000 Northwest Houstonians in CPR via its CPR Anytime kit. With this partnership, the AHA hopes to increase bystander CPR response time by equipping community partners with the materials and skill set to act appropriately in an emergency.
The AHA CPR Anytime program will deliver structured CPR curriculum, directly impacting bystander response rates in Northwest Harris County and surrounding cities such as Tomball, Magnolia and Hockley.
The Adult & Child CPR Anytime Personal Learning Kit allows everyone to learn the core skills of CPR in just 20 minutes by using their own personal kit. The kit contains everything needed to learn basic CPR, and choking relief anywhere, from the comfort of home to a large community group setting. Once individuals are trained, they will be able to train others with their personal CPR Anytime kit.
Ronald Mullins, a long-time AHA volunteer, is bringing his experience and leadership to help implement trainings associated with this program.
“Raising awareness of the lifesaving value of CPR has been proven to raise the survival rates of cardiac arrest,” Mullins said, before adding, “be selfish, learn CPR; and keep more brothers, sisters, moms, dads, friends and co-workers around longer."
