Lone Star College awards record number of degrees and certificates at commencement ceremonies

Lone Star College conferred a record 7,983 associate degrees and certificates to eligible students who took part in commencement ceremonies this past week. That represents a 13.5 percent increase from 2015-16.

“This is an incredible achievement for both our students and faculty,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “I am extremely proud of the work done by our faculty and staff to help our Lone Star College students succeed.”

The ceremonies for six Lone Star Colleges took place May 12 and 13.

Community College Week magazine has named Lone Star College a Top 5 producer of associate degrees, ranking fourth nationally among all community colleges in the U.S. on the magazine’s 2016 list of Top 100 Associate Degree Producers. There are approximately 1,100 community colleges nationwide.

In addition, the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine named LSC a Top 25 College for Hispanics. LSC was ranked third in the nation for the number of Hispanic students enrolled and was ranked third for the number of associate degrees awarded.

For the 2015-16 school year, 7,032 LSC students received their associate degree or certificate compared to the 7,983 students who graduated this year.

“These graduates are a testament to our commitment to ensure excellence in teaching and learning, and to providing student-centered support services,” said Head.
