Lone Star College-CyFair’s Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) will host a Feb. 16 presentation titled “Patriotism Isn't Enough: Discrimination, Participation, and Political Socialization of Refugees and Immigrants.”
Shyam K. Sriram will answer the question - Do younger Americans, particularly college students, participate less in the political process simply because they don’t love America as much? Join this fascinating presentation on the findings from an original survey of college students in California and Georgia using the Everyday Discrimination Scale, a 20-question patriotism survey, and a self-defined measure of political participation.
This Q&A presentation will be held from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. in the Center for Academic and Student Affairs (CASA) room 110 on the LSC-CyFair campus at 9191 Barker Cypress.
One of the CCE’s goals is to get people thinking about actions they can take to address challenges in their immediate community and the broader society. For information, go to LoneStar.edu/CivicEngagement.
