The Community College Petrochemical Initiative (CCPI) in conjunction with ExxonMobil awarded three Lone Star College-North Harris students scholarships to continue their education.
“We are so grateful for the support ExxonMobil gives to the Community College Petrochemical Initiative,” said Dr. Gerald Napoles, LSC-North Harris president. “These scholarships will help LSC-North Harris students continue their education and be prepared to join this growing industry.”
LSC-North Harris students Benjamin Brown, Douglas Bragg and Robert Perez were joined by students from Alvin Community College, Brazosport College, College of the Mainland, Galveston College, Houston Community College, Lee College, San Jacinto College and Wharton County Junior College. In all ExxonMobil awarded 39 scholarships to local area college students.
“We continue to see great progress as these colleges educate, train and develop candidates to fill the increasing number of jobs in the petrochemical industry,” said Matt Aguiar, ExxonMobil Chemical Company senior vice president. “Because of the ongoing success, I’m proud to announce that ExxonMobil is providing another $300,000 for this important training program.”
Now in its fourth year, the CCPI has spread the word across the region that typical salaries in this expanding industry average nearly $100,000 annually and opportunities are available for those who possess the necessary skills.
Representatives from ExxonMobil and all nine partnering colleges met at ExxonMobil’s main office building in Baytown last week to present $45,000 in scholarships to the selected students.
