The Lone Star College-North Harris Visual Communication department will host a spring Visual Communication Portfolio Show on Wednesday, April 20 at 4 p.m. in the college’s Digital Technology Center Lobby, located at 2700 W.W. Thorne Dr. Houston, TX 77073. The community is invited to attend this free event.
The student portfolio show will exhibit the work of graduating Visual Communication students in their final semester at LSC-North Harris. These students are completing Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees or certificates in graphic design, video production, animation, multimedia production or web design. Students will have table displays featuring their work and will be available for questions throughout the event.
Students can use the portfolio show as a “pre-interview” to showcase their works to industry professionals. The portfolio show is a big stepping-stone for many of the student artists, as many of the past participants have been hired as a direct result of these shows.
“This is a great opportunity to meet our graduating students, to informally interview them as prospective interns, or to be inspired by the youthful energetic creations of the next generation of graphic designers, videographers, web designers, animators, and multimedia specialists,” said LSC-North Harris Visual Communication Department Chair, Dr. Kendall Lawrence.
The visual communication program at LSC-North Harris provides students with skills needed for careers in commercial art and design, desktop publishing, web design, 3-D animation, multimedia development, and video and post-production. Students can choose to earn a certificate in one or more of these areas, and/or an Associate of Applied Science degree in Visual Communication.
The demand for these skills comes from a variety of industries including advertising, consumer products, education, financial, entertainment, government, legal, manufacturing, medical, petroleum, publishing, transportation, and video production. Why such a broad range in career industries? Companies want and need to communicate with clients, customers, and community, and nothing is more lasting than the emotional impact of visual imagery.
The LSC-North Harris Visual Communication program features:
• Hands-on training on latest software and hardware on both PC and Mac platforms in small class settings.
• Up-to-date job skills and knowledge from instructors with real-world work experience in the industry.
• Project-based classes to build up your portfolio for job interviews.
• Accessible and quality education at a much more affordable cost than four-year universities.
• Degree transferable to major area universities to apply towards a bachelor’s degree.
