Lone Star College-University Park hosted a successful Northwest Harris County Heart Walk welcoming about 3,500 walkers and supporters.
LSC-University Park President Shah Ardalan, who walked for his family, friends and the 11,000 students at the College, received the 2015 Top Walker award for raising $3,600 for the American Heart Association and his Ignite! Team won the 2015 Top Team award for raising a total of $4,275. The college, with 16 teams, earned the No. 2 Top Company-Fundraiser award, bringing in $8,429 in donations well over its $5,000 goal.
Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital was the No. 1 team, raising $25,258. Other teams represented a wide variety of entities including Klein ISD, Cypress Fairbanks ISD, iSchool High at University Park, and the University of Houston-Downtown Northwest Campus.
“We thoroughly enjoyed welcoming the community to our college for this event and thank everyone who worked behind the scenes to make it a success,” Ardalan said. “It was a gorgeous day for people to come out and raise awareness for an important cause, and we were glad to host the event and give back to the community.”
The event on Oct. 3 raised more than $147,000 and counting. Walkers’ fundraising pages will remain open for about a month. To donate, go to NWHarrisHeartWalk.org.
