Mario K. Castillo has been named Lone Star College general counsel. Castillo began his duties Aug. 1.
“We are pleased to have Mario Castillo join our team,” said Steve Head, LSC chancellor. “His background and experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow and serve our community.”
Prior to joining LSC, Castillo was a partner at Monty & Ramirez LLP, a firm that focuses on the representation of public and private-sector employers in matters involving employment, labor, and immigration compliance issues. Castillo also spent time as a briefing attorney for the Hon. Felix Recio, retired U.S. magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas, and was an adjunct instructor in criminal law at the University of Texas at Brownsville.
“Lone Star College growth and its unique placement as the fastest-growing community college system in the United States presents a varied panoply of legal issues and opportunities that I would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere,” said Castillo. “I believe Lone Star College has undergone considerable changes in the last few years, and I look forward to helping Dr. Head and the college meet the challenges of the days ahead.”
The Office of General Counsel provides timely and responsible legal advice regarding the expansive array of legal issues that face a thriving, modern, public community college system, such as LSC.
Castillo received a Bachelor of Arts in government at the University of Texas before earning his Juris Doctorate at the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University.
“The law at its most basic level is an endless intellectual pursuit,” said Castillo. “That's what makes it a worthwhile lifelong pursuit.”
Lone Star College has been opening doors to a better community for more than 40 years. Founded in 1973, LSC remains steadfast in its commitment to student success and credential completion.
