Lone Star College-North Harris professor of paralegal studies, Jeff Watts was recently named as Coordinator of the Legislative Affairs Committee for the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA).
Watts’ role is to oversee the members of the committee as they conduct research on any pending legislation from all 50 state legislatures as well as Congress that may affect the paralegal profession.
“I am honored to be selected for this position,” said Watts. “I am looking forward to working with the other members of the committee to insure the board receives timely updates of any pending legislation that would affect paralegals.”
Prior to teaching full-time at Lone Star College, Watts served as the chair of a paralegal program at a junior college in Minnesota. While residing and teaching in Minnesota, he became a member of the Minnesota Paralegal Association (MPA), and served as the educational liaison as well as the Chairman of the Legislative Affairs Committee to MPA.
Watts has also served as a member of the advisory council to NFPA. “In my role as a member of the advisory council, I served on an ad hoc committee that has been tasked with preparing a forward looking strategic report on the state of the paralegal profession,” added Watts.
The LSC-North Harris paralegal studies program is ABA approved, and produces successful paralegals who exercise a high level of expertise, ethics, and professional responsibility. Students in the program are encouraged to become lifelong learners with the ability to adapt to the changing legal environment.
The program offers a two-year AAS degree in paralegal studies and a one-year certificate for those who already possess an associate or bachelor’s degree in any subject.
