Lone Star College-CyFair’s 4N6 Speech Team President Jonathan Walton kick starts the season toward national success in recent state-wide competition. 

“Jonathon, who last year was a national finalist in Persuasive Speaking, held his own, and once again brought the ‘gold’ home to LSC-CyFair,” said Patrick Barton, speech professor and speech team advisor.

Walton was also part of the duo who took a second-place overall sweepstakes trophy in last year’s nationals. He begins this year’s season as a finalist in Informative Speaking and a semi-finalist in Impromptu Speaking, after competing against some of the best speakers in the country including from the University of Texas at Austin - a perennial top team in the nation, said Barton.

“Our sister college, LSC-North Harris had an even more successful weekend, but they have a slightly more seasoned team,” Barton said. “My personal goal is to offer them a healthy dose of competition moving forward and yes, beat them when all is said and done.”

LSC-CyFair’s 4N6 Speech Team is headed to Oklahoma for inter-state competition, followed with the prestigious HFOtournament in Peoria, Illinois in January, all in preparation for nationals in March and April.

“We’re off to a great start this year,” said Barton.
