Students in Lone Star College-Montgomery's health-related programs will be able to continue their education with less worry about finances thanks to scholarship funds raised at Healthier U, the college's annual wellness expo and job fair.
Approximately $19,000 was raised from sponsors, participants, and donations during the three-day event held in April. This amount allows four $1,000 endowed scholarships and 25 $500 scholarships to be awarded to deserving students primarily in the college's nursing, medical radiologic technology, physical therapist assistant, fire science technology, and emergency medical services programs.
The event included a wellness expo with businesses and organizations showing demonstrations and providing health-related information and a job fair, as well as a heart-healthy cook-off and bake-off, a silent auction, a blood drive for St. Luke's Hospital System, and a golf tournament held at Panorama Country Club in Panorama Village.
Sponsors and golf tournament participants included: Architectural Floors/Mohawk Group, Chem-Aqua, Connect 2 Health Wellness, Conroe & Montgomery Physician Associates, Douglas Scherr, Exer-Tech, Inc., Follett, KBR, Laraway Family Dentistry, Letsos Company, Lifetime Eyecare Associates, Lisa Rickord, Lone Star College-Montgomery Office of the President, Lone Star Family Health Center, PBK, Inc., Physicians ER - The Woodlands, Pocket Nurse, Quality of Life Chiropractic, Sam's Club, South Montgomery County YMCA, Surfset Fitness-Houston, Synergy Radiology Associates, Vanguard Environments, and Waffle House.
