In an effort to assist lower-income families with filing their taxes, Lone Star College-Montgomery and Lone Star College-Conroe Center are providing free income tax preparation for community residents.
Beginning January 29 at LSC-Montgomery, accounting students and other volunteers trained and certified by the IRS will help families prepare and file their 2013 federal income tax returns on Tuesdays, from 4-7 p.m., and on Saturdays, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., in the Library Building (Building F), Room 314.
Then, beginning February 1, LSC-Conroe Center will offer tax preparation services through a partnership with AARP Foundation on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 12-4 p.m., and Saturdays, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at LSC-ConroeCenter in Room CC121.
Tax preparation services at both campuses will be available through April 15, with the exception of March 10-16, when the college is closed for spring holiday.
“Between the two locations, most taxpayers should be able to find a time that works for them,” said Madeline Brogan, professor of accounting at LSC-Montgomery.
The college has provided volunteer tax preparation services for several years. Students in the college’s Accounting and Business Club, which promotes the profession and provides resources to interested students, use this as an opportunity for service learning.
