The Lone Star College-Tomball men’s basketball team won the Lone Star Sport Club Conference championship, held November 8-10, in a close game against LSC-Kingwood.
Fourteen college and university teams began the season vying for the championship title. When the dust settled, four teams were still standing: LSC-Tomball, LSC-Kingwood, LSC-CyFair and Houston Community College-Northwest.
In the first round of the tournament, held at LSC-Kingwood, LSC-Tomball defeated the championship favorite, Houston Community College-Northwest, 38-24. The LSC-Tomball Timberwolves then advanced to face their rival, the LSC-Kingwood Coyotes. After trailing early in what was a close game throughout, the LSC-Tomball Timberwolves finally prevailed, winning the game by one point for a final score of 48-47.
“The team won because of great team defensive effort and ball movement.” said Paul Dempsey, LSC-Tomball wellness center and club sports program coordinator. “We’ve made it to the play-offs all fourteen semesters since the club was established and we’ve won the last two conference championships. We are looking forward to trying for a three-peat in 2014.”
In addition to the team win, LSC-Tomball Timberwolves Quincy Jackson and Bradley Blosser received recognition as 2013 Conference All-Tournament Team for Men.
