LSC-Montgomery will host a Women’s Self-Defense Course on Monday, December 2, from 3-4:30 p.m., in the LSC-Montgomery aerobics room (Commons Building, Bldg. A, Room 118).
The course, normally priced at $65, will be discounted to $25, with all proceeds going toward scholarships for students as part of the college’s Healthier U initiative.
“With the holiday season upon us, this course can help give security and peace of mind in knowing that you can dramatically increase the chances of surviving/avoiding a violent attack,” said Tim Mousel, kinesiology instructor at LSC-Montgomery and member of the college’s Healthier U committee. “The ability to protect yourself, your friends and family from dangerous situations is priceless.”
This self-defense course will cover the following:
• Defense against the most common strikes
• How to escape the most common grabs and holds
• Extensive training about survival on the ground
• Strategies to trick your attacker
• How to avoid a violent confrontation
• Imagine a 200 pound attacker pinning you on your back…learn how to escape safely
• Learn to disable your attacker by utilizing your strengths against the attacker’s weaknesses.
Mousel has taught this self-defense class several times on campus; however, this is the first time that proceeds from the class will support Healthier U, LSC-Montgomery’s annual wellness expo and job fair that raises scholarships for students primarily pursuing degrees or training in health-related programs. Healthier U takes place April 3-6, 2014, however, due to an anticipated demand for the class, Mousel is offering it now and then again in the spring.
Only 50 spots are available and online pre-registration and payment is required. Visit https://lsckine.com/womens-self-defense/ to register and download the payment form. Contact Tim Mousel at Timothy.J.Mousel@LoneStar.edu or (936) 273-7211 with any questions.
