During her early beginnings in “the projects” of an East Texas town, Dr. Tameka Williams-Bruce, Lone Star College System’s senior human resources manager, had a dream for something more than the circumstances around her. She realized that dream this February when, after years of long days and late nights studying, Williams-Bruce earned her doctorate degree in organization and management from Capella University.
Williams-Bruce was recently honored for her continuous support of the college’s students and her outstanding educational achievement at Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Women’s History Tea Lunch. During the event, Williams-Bruce shared a glimpse into her story, encouraging attendees to find a mentor and stay motivated.

“I’m humbled at the recognition, but it’s not about me or what I’ve achieved,” said Williams-Bruce. “It’s about uplifting and empowering other women. To some, where I came from is irrelevant, but to me, it’s very relevant. It took a lot of dedication, self-motivation, and perseverance to get where I am today.”
For the last three years, LSC-Montgomery has been hosting this old-fashioned teatime during Women’s History Month in March to empower and embrace women on campus and within the community. This year, the theme was “Inspiring Innovation through Imagination,” a theme utilized worldwide.
Fox 26 morning news anchor Melissa Wilson led the tea lunch as Mistress of Ceremonies. The guest speakers were 2008 Olympic swim team diver Nancilea Foster, who shared her personal story of success; and Zecqureia Johnson, a current LSC-Montgomery student who challenged guests to succeed through service work.
The entertainment was provided by Chelsea Rollins, the first-place winner of LSC-Montgomery’s Lone Star’s Got Talent talent show, which was held in February. Rollins along with other talent show participants Magdiel Zuniga, Andriy Pylypchuk, Johan Hernandez, and Hannah Weaver, interspersed classical guitar and vocal song selections during the event.
The event was sponsored by the office of student life.
