For the fourth time and third year in a row, Lone Star College-CyFair’s Tennis Team has claimed the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Tennis On Campus Texas Club of the Year title.
At the recent state competition, LSC-CyFair finished ninth among 69 teams, which was the highest among community colleges and the college’s top team had a 7-1 record, said Coach Tim Sebesta. In addition to skills and sportsmanship while competing on the court, teams are recognized for their community service off the court.
“The players on the LSC-CyFair Tennis Team are committed to serving the community as well as participating at a high level on the court against 4-year colleges and universities,” said Coach Tim Sebesta. “Their commitment to each is extraordinary and they are recognized each year by the USTA for their achievements.”
Among those USTA achievements are being named Texas Club of the Year in 2009, 2011 and 2012 as well as National Club of the Year Award in 2011. With this year’s honor, the team receives an automatic bid to nationals in April.
“Our team’s primary goal is to introduce tennis to a wide variety of populations and to grow the game of tennis in the Houston area,” Sebesta said. “We also believe in giving back to the community that gives so much to us. The underserved and populations in need are near and dear to our program.”
