Texas State Poet Laureate (2011) Dave Parsons is sharing his poetry knowledge with Lone Star College-Montgomery students this spring through a poetry-based English class, Poetry Workshop (English 2308), which begins Thursday January 17 |
This credit class is an introduction to the art of writing and editing poetry. Guest poets are scheduled to speak each month, and students will participate in encouraging and informative discussions of contemporary poetry.
“Students will create and present their own work, as well as discuss current publishing standards, trends, and editing techniques,” said Parsons, who has been an adjunct faculty member at LSC-Montgomery since the college opened in 1993. “It’s the first purely poetry class I have taught since my Poet Laureate award, and I’m excited to share with students the art of poetry.”
Poetry Workshop will meet weekly on Thursday evenings from 6-8:50 p.m., beginning Thursday, January 17. Registration for the spring 2013 semester has already begun; however, students may register for this class up until the day the class begins. Payment is due at the time of registration.
