Lone Star College-CyFair will again serve as the host site for the 2012 Northwest Harris Heart Walk set for Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Barker Cypress campus with the walk route going through Caldwell Companies’ development of Towne Lake.
Organizers expect more than 2,000 community walkers to participate in the non-competitive, three-mile Heart Walk and raise $285,000 to help fight the nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 health threats – heart disease and stroke.
“LSC-CyFair is proud to team up with Caldwell Companies to co-host this charity event,” said Dr. Claire Phillips, campus Heart Walk coordinator. “Our staff and students not only participate with several teams of walkers, but continue to help raise thousands of dollars for the American Heart Association each year.”
The Heart Walk provides morning festivities for the whole family with heart-healthy giveaways, tasty treats, heart-pumping activities, medical screenings and advice on heart health, a Kid’s Zone as well as opportunities to take commemorative photos, walk through My Heart’s inflatable MEGA heart and hear survivors share their stories.
Following opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m., the walk kicks off at 9:30 a.m. from the north parking lot of the college campus at 9191 Barker Cypress and continues into the neighboring Towne Lake subdivision.
