HOUSTON (March 9, 2012) – Lone Star Corporate College will offer three Oracle Database 11 workshops as part of the Lone Star Corporate College Seminar Series.
The workshops, which begin in March, take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. at Lone Star College-University Park, 20515 State Highway 249 at Louetta Road in Houston.
Courses can be taken in sequence or as individual offerings. Workshop dates are as follows:
Oracle Database 11: Intro to SQL, March 20-May 3;
Oracle Database 11: Administration Workshop I, May 15-July 3;
Oracle Database 11: Administrative Workshop II, July 17-Aug. 30.
Oracle Database 11: Intro to SQL will teach students the Structured Query Language (SQL) which is used to communicate with a database and to perform tasks in database managements. The standard SQL commands such as “Select”, “Insert”, “Update”, “Delete” and “Create” can be used to accomplish most needs within a database. This course will also cover logical data storage structure, managing data in different time zones and retrieving data using sub-queries. SQL is geared for application developers, business analysts, data warehouse administrators, developers, forms developers, PL/SQL developers and system analysts.
Oracle Database 11: Administration Workshop I will provide students with a firm foundation in basic database administration and help them to gain a conceptual understanding of the Oracle database architecture. Students will create an operational database and learn to properly manage the various structures in an effective and efficient manner including performance monitoring, database security, user management, and backup/recovery techniques. Some course topics include installing Oracle software, creating an Oracle database and managing the Automatic Storage Management instance. The course is designed for database administrators, Java developers, support engineers, technical administrators and technical consultants.
Oracle Database 11: Administration Workshop II takes the database administrator beyond the basic tasks in Oracle Database 11: Administration Workshop I to gain a deeper understanding of one of the most important jobs of a database administrator – backup and recovery. Students will learn how to automate tasks with the scheduler, diagnose and repair data failures with Flashback technology, and manage space to optimize database storage. Some course topics include configuring for recoverability, using the Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) Recovery Catalog and monitoring and tuning RMAN. This course is for administrators, engineers and consultants preparing to take the corresponding Oracle Certified Associate exam.
Lone Star Corporate College is offering this certification seminar in partnership with the University of Houston.
The cost of each workshop is $1,050 and at the conclusion of the series, participants will be prepared to take the Oracle Certified Association Exam.
