Sponsors, Exhibitors Needed for College’s “Healthier U” Scholarship Event
Published on: January 11, 2012
Lone Star College-Montgomery is seeking sponsors and booth exhibitors for Healthier U, an annual community-wide wellness expo, job fair, and golf tournament that provides scholarships for students while promoting healthier living in the community.
The three-day event takes place April 11-13, and proceeds supply scholarships for students primarily in the nursing, radiologic technology, physical therapist assistant, fire science technology, and emergency medical technician programs.
According to Mary Rush, division operations manager at LSC-Montgomery and Healthier U coordinator, in 2011, more than $22,000 was raised from the event, enough to provide 44 $500 scholarships for students.
“These scholarships go a long way in helping our students,” said Rush, “Our hard-working students depend on the community businesses and organizations that serve as sponsors at the expo and golf tournament.”
Any business that offers a health-related service to the community (medical- or fitness-related, emotional well-being, or even financial health) is invited to showcase their products and services at the event. Popular booth ideas include displays, educational or interactive games, screenings, videos, informal consultations, and giveaways.
“After 15 years, Healthier U has become a very lively and pleasant venue where sponsors can network with others, gain potential clients, and promote their services,” said Rush. “Sponsorship is a win-win situation for both the local businesses and the students.”
The booth sponsorship levels for Healthier U 2012 are: Platinum ($1,500); Gold ($1,000); Silver ($500); and Bronze ($250), with increasing benefits at each level. All levels include a table(s) and skirting, materials transportation and booth set-up assistance, refreshments, and of course, publicity before, during, and after the event.
Among the 35 businesses and organizations sponsoring booths at the 2011 Healthier U event were top-level sponsors HCN/The Courier/The Villager, Houston Spine and Rehabilitation Center, and JobSparx.
Silver- and Bronze-level sponsors were Architectural Floors/The Mohawk Group; Arthur Murray Dance Studios; Avatar Home Health Care Agency, LLC; Bethany Home Health; Bethesda Lutheran Communities; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas; Century Rehabilitation; Diggs Construction, LLC; Exer-Tech Inc.; Kaplan Nursing; Life Fitness; Lone Star College-Montgomery Nursing Students; Lone Star Community Health Center, Inc.; Massage Envy & European Wax Center; Nexus Specialty Hospital; Northwoods Urology Associates; Pathfinder Pediatric Home Care, Inc.; Pyramid Tubular Products; Regent Care Center; Sadler Clinic; Scrubs, etc.; Shimadzu Medical Systems; South Montgomery County YMCA; Tri County Mental Health Mental Retardation Services; USE Credit Union; and WFF Facility Services.
Additionally, golf team registration for the Healthier U Maverick Open is still available, along with specific golf tournament sponsorships. Registration for a team of four for the tournament only is $300; a scholarship-only sponsor is $250; and a hole sponsorship is $500. The golf tournament will be held at River Plantation Country Club in Conroe.
The entire Healthier U 2012 event line-up begins on Wednesday, April 11, with a heart-healthy cook-off and sweets bake-off, a gently used multimedia sale, and a silent auction. The multimedia sale and silent auction continue through Thursday, April 12.
On Thursday, April 12, the wellness expo and job fair take place. The wellness expo includes informal presentations, demonstrations, and exhibits.
At noon on Thursday, an awards ceremony will be held to recognize the Healthier U scholarship recipients for 2011, as well as the Platinum- and Gold-level sponsors.
The event concludes on Friday, April 13 with a golf tournament.
