Lone Star College-CyFair recently celebrated the opening of a new Veterans Affairs Center (VAC) on the Barker Cypress campus to assist approximately 450 student veterans with education goals, career transitions and personal issues.
Joining LSC-CyFair’s President Dr. Audre Levy and Dean of Student Services Dr. Rito Silva at the opening were partners from the Texas Veteran’s Commission (TVC) including employment representatives Fred Gibbs, Dee Dee Glasscock, Robert Patterson and Raymond Wilburn. Also in attendance were college staff and several student veterans, including Student Veteran Association President Said Castelan.
Thanks to a partnership with TVC, student veterans enrolled at LSC-CyFair now have a conveniently located VAC center on the Barker Cypress campus. Centers are housed on campuses throughout the Lone Star College System.
TVC employment representatives will be available to assist student veterans Wednesdays, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., at the new center located in the Learning Commons, room 142G. Appointments are not required but can be made via e-mail at VeteransAffairsCenter@LoneStar.edu or phone at 281.290.2922.
Among the free services available to student veterans at LSC-CyFair are resume preparation, job matching and searches, completing applications, career counseling, interview techniques and referrals for financial assistance.
Student veterans may also contact Jerri Brandyburg, LSC-CyFair’s VA Advisor Specialist, at 281.290.3432 or Evelyn Flores, LSC-Fairbanks Center’s VA Academic Advisor, at 832.782.5017. Information for student veterans and family member resources is also available at LoneStar.edu/veterans-affairs.
