Little Shop of Horrors on stage May 5-8

See the exotic plant “Audrey II” come to life on stage at Lone Star College-CyFair in the May 5 through May 8 production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”

A down-and-out, skid-row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers “Audrey II.”  But soon the plant grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore, who later reveals itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination!

“Little Shop of Horrors” is one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time. This affectionate spoof of 1950’s sci-fi movies has become a house-hold name thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the song-writing team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. This duo redefined the animated musical film genre with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”, “Beauty and The Beast” and “Aladdin.”

LSC-CyFair’s Alex Qian, artistic director of vocal activities, and Matt Albrecht, stage director, teams up to produce this charming, tuneful and hilarious end-of-the-semester show.

In addition, Energe Spa is teaming up with LSC-CyFair to offer a Mother’s Day performance deal. Buy a May 8 show ticket for mom and receive a coupon for a complimentary eyebrow or upper lip wax (and no purchase required) at Energe Spa, located at 24140 U.S. Highway 290 at Barker Cypress in front of Randall’s.

All “Little Shop of Horrors” performances are held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Main Stage Theatre in the Center for the Arts building at 9191 Barker Cypress. A reception will follow the Friday performance.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students with valid ID. Group discounts are available.
