Don’t miss a beat of Houston’s most talented junior high, middle school and high school percussionists as they open for the Blue Man Group at Jones Hall March 9 through March 13.
Percussion One (P1), a high school drumline and percussion ensemble that serve as “Artists in Residence” at Lone Star College-CyFair, along with P1-13, the expansion of P1 featuring junior high and middle school percussionists, are honored to return to Jones Hall.
“Last year, P1 and P1-13 were invited to perform preludes to all five “Stomp” shows. This year we’ve been invited to perform preludes for all eight Blue Man Group shows,” said Lamar Burkhalter, founder and executive director of the nonprofit Percussion One Foundation. “Our talented percussionists will be performing on a myriad of trash can, BBQ grills, buckets, poles and various other non traditional instruments.”
P1 has performed locally in parades, church and community events, pre-game and half-time shows for the Houston area sports teams, such as the Texans, Rockets and Aeros, Texas Bowl events and much more throughout Texas. P1-13 was recently invited to perform at the 2011 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention for a lecture clinic as well as a showcase concert for an audience of 500 music students and directors.
“The TMEA invitation was truly an honor and I am so proud of P1-13’s hard work,” said Burkhalter. “I know the experience won’t be soon forgotten as we’ve been receiving rave reviews from band, choir and orchestra directors around the state.”
The next opportunity to bring the family and share an evening with P1 and P1-13 in the Cy-Fair area will be May 22 at LSC-CyFair, 9191 Barker Cypress. For information on P1 and P1-13, go to www.percussionone.org.
