Lights, Camera, Action! Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Free Film Series Begins This Fall

Calling all film lovers and self-proclaimed movie buffs! The 12th annual Film Series at Lone Star College-Montgomery is set to begin this weekend with an award-winning, riveting line-up of movies. And the best plot twist yet is that all films are open to the entire community free of charge!

The series, put together and hosted by Gary Brown, professor of government at LSC-Montgomery, is loosely modeled after the critically-acclaimed Rice Film Series.

“The goal is to show movies that are ‘off the beaten path’ to film lovers in the community,” said Brown. “Then after the viewing, all patrons can engage in an interesting discussion of plot, director’s elements, specials effects, underlying themes or meanings, and more.”

This fall, the series features movies by Alfred Hitchcock, and this spring, the series is centered on “The Thin Man” film series.

“Who doesn’t love Hitchcock films?” said Brown. “I look forward to people coming out simply to try and guess when Hitchcock himself makes a quick appearance in the production, which is one of his trademarks.”

The 2010-11 Film Series show times are:

September 11, 13: Notorious (1946)
September 18, 20: Dial M for Murder
September 25, 27: Rear Window
October 2, 4: To Catch a Thief
October 9, 11: The Man Who Knew Too Much
October 16, 18: Vertigo
October 23, 25: North by Northwest

January 29, 31: The Thin Man
February 5, 7: After the Thin Man
February 12, 14: Another Thin Man
February 19, 21: Shadow of the Thin Man
February 26, 28: Song of the Thin Man

Each film is shown twice; the first date listed is the Saturday showing at 7 p.m., and the second date listed is the Monday showing at 1 p.m. All films will be shown at the LSC-Montgomery campus in Building B, Room 102.
