Best Spot On Campus: Student First to Use Parking Garage at Lone Star College-Montgomery

Daniel Gonzales, a student at Lone Star College-Montgomery, was the first to park in the college’s new 1,000-space, five-level parking garage, which opened on the first day of the fall semester. More than 12,500 students are enrolled at LSC-Montgomery this fall. It’s well-known that the early bird gets the worm. But in the case of Daniel Gonzales, a student at Lone Star College-Montgomery, the ‘early bird’ gets to be the first person to ever park in the brand new, on-campus parking garage.

Gonzales, who arrived about 10 minutes before his 7 a.m. English class, drove into the parking garage not expecting such recognition.

“I never dreamed I would be the first student to park there,” said Gonzales. “But when I drove in, I got my picture taken and was greeted with a LSC-Montgomery goodie bag. It was kind of cool.”

On August 30, the first day of classes for the fall semester, the 1,000-space parking garage was open and ready for use for the first time. By noon, more than 750 students, staff, and faculty members, had made their way to the parking garage, parking on all five levels.

“In the past, parking has been an issue on campus, so when I heard that it would be open for the first day of classes, I just drove straight there to avoid any parking lot congestion,” said Gonzales.

As part of the 2008 Lone Star College System bond referendum, the parking garage is the first construction project on campus, and the first within the entire LSCS, to be completed. It consists of five levels and approximately 1,000 spaces.

The parking garage is free to all students, staff, faculty, as well as community members visiting campus. It is situated on the west side of campus and can be easily accessed by entering campus via West Campus Drive—directly across from College Park High School.

The LSC-Montgomery police station is housed in the parking garage on the first floor to help ensure the safety of all parking garage users, as well as provide adequate space for campus police to monitor the entire campus.

“I think that this parking garage is great for the campus,” said Gonzales. “It’s easy, convenient, and I plan to use it every day this semester!”
