Mini-job fair Sept. 14 for job seekers and employers

Need a job or a new career? Visit with area employers Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the College Center at Lone Star College-CyFair.

“Job Connection Days is a mini-job fair open to students and the community,” said Dr. Peggy Osbourn, director of counseling, career and disability services at Lone Star College-CyFair. “Employers visit the campus to recruit individuals to fill positions available within their companies.”

One past participant, Ron Guthrie, said he does all he can to reach potential employees in his industry such as job fairs.

“The on-campus job fairs have allowed us to bring attention to LSC-CyFair’s Massage Therapy Program and let students know that massage therapy is the number one part-time job according to Career Builders.com,” said Guthrie, owner of three Massage Envy locations in the area including Katy-Westgate, Copperfield and Cypress. “We have had many students successfully work for us on a part-time basis while attending school. One of our most requested therapists graduated from the very first year of the college’s Massage Therapy Program.”

LSC-CyFair’s mini-job fairs, typically held the second Tuesday of the month, benefit the employer as well as the job seeker, whether they are a student or a community member.

“This is a good time to discuss the possibility of developing an internship/coop opportunity for employers,” Osbourn said. “It’s also an opportunity for the job seeker to discuss future careers within a particular company or to gain general career information.”
