Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Accounting Club was recently named one of three winners in Whataburger’s School Challenge, a regional challenge that occurs in conjunction with the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) awareness walks to raise awareness for neuromuscular diseases.
Six members from the club participated in the Stride & Ride walk at The Woodlands Mall this spring, raising close to $1,000 for MDA between private donations and an on-campus bake sale. As the organization with the highest average earned per participant, the club was presented with a $250 check from Whataburger.
“This check becomes our seed money for next year’s MDA walk,” said Madeline Brogan, professor of accounting at LSC-Montgomery and accounting club advisor.
MDA strives to raise awareness, as well as funds, to find a cure for one of the 45 neuromuscular diseases. Whataburger is a strong supporter of MDA and uses the school challenge to help increase fundraising and school participation.
