Lone Star College-North Harris awarded approximately 1,200 degrees and certificates to students for the 2009-2010 academic year. Many of those graduates were honored at the 2010 commencement ceremony on May 14. Friends and families gathered at M.O. Campbell Education Center to watch loved ones receive much-deserved associate degrees and career studies certificates at a joint ceremony of LSC-North Harris and LSC-Kingwood graduates. Nearly 700 students from both colleges participated in the event.
Despite “Hurricane Lone Star” as the speaker Dr. Bennie Lambert called Friday’s rain, thousands of supporters were on hand to witness the event. “It’s a great sight to see family in the stands despite the inclement weather,” said Lambert, vice president of student services at LSC-North Harris. “Put pictures on your walls as a reminder of what your family and friends did for you tonight.”
While many of the night’s graduates will be transferring their degrees to four-year institutions and continuing their education, a significant portion also plan to enter the workforce immediately thanks to their newly-earned degree or certificate.
Dr. Lambert congratulated all of the students on their success and encouraged them to continue following their dream, whatever it may be.
“Some have stumbled but refused to fall; all of you have completed a goal and I encourage you to always go to the next level,” Dr. Lambert told the graduates, who answered with a loud cheer.
